VIRSERUMS KONSTHALL

When on holiday in Småland in Sweden, I took the opportunity to visit an arts museum/gallery that's supposed to be rather interesting and different. It's called Virserums Konsthall. It was a long drive from where we were, on narrow winding roads with surroundings that were sometimes very beautiful. The building is marvelous, as you can see in the pictures below, and do not at all resemble most arts museums or galleries. Unfortunately I didn't fancy the exhibitions as much as the building (in fact I didn't hardly fancy them at all). But I will have a look at their homepage next summer and hopefully then they'll exhibit something much more worth while!

SNEAK PEEK AUTUMN/WINTER 2012

The shop is now back in business.... Welcome! And below is a sneak peek of the autumn/winter collection that will be available in a few weeks time! The main patterns are called Sour Said the Fox, Limu Limu Lima and Corvus Corax and I will introduce them properly as when the collection has landed in my studio.
I'm very proud to announce that the autumn/winter collection is GOTS certified and is produced in Turkey.

BERLIN - MUSEUM FÜR NATURKUNDE

Me, my daughters and some friends just got back from a few lovely days in Berlin! I especially liked a huge room in the Museum fur Naturkunde, full of jars with fish and suchlike in ethanol.... My eldest daughter got scared but my youngest didn't mind at all.

SPRING/SUMMER 2013

I'm finally getting down to drawing the next collection: S/S13... though I'm under so much stress. I have been given a deadline from my producers: everything must be finished and sent to them by the 21st of May (not even 2 weeks left...) This is to enable them to finish and send me the samples in time for the CPH Kids fair in Copenhagen 9-11th of August. So yesterday and today I worked on the colours.
I love working with the colours (next to drawing the patterns this is my favourite task)! This is my method: I put together some pictures that I feel strongly about and then I select colours from these photos/pictures. It can be pictures of anything at all. I'm constantly collecting pictures. Below's my unfinished colour-collage and approximate colours for S/S13. Next step is to make a colour-chart of these colours in Illustrator so that I can start applying them to my designs and patterns. So far I call the S/S 2013 collection CROSS....

ULF RAHMBERG - BORÅS KONSTMUSEUM

I dag tog jag och min yngsta dotter (hon fyllde 3 och ett halvt år i går) bussen till Borås för att gå på dubbelvernissage på Borås Konstmuseum. Det började fantastiskt bra med att ingen av oss blev åksjuka på bussen. Vi myste, åt mackor och drack kaffe och sen fortsatte resten av dagen lika bra! Det var hur lätt som helst att hitta från tågstationen till Kulturhuset (jag hade aldrig varit där tidigare). Bara att ta sikte på kyrktornet och gå rakt fram så var man framme på ca 10 minuter. Kulturhuset var fint och vernissagerna super! Först var det en utställning med Lena Svedberg som presenterades av utställningens curator Majlis Stensman. (Min dotter drack cider, åt nötter, rapade högljutt och var på det stora hela fantastiskt välartad under denna vernissage.) Senare presenterades den stora utställning "Lustarnas trädgård och civilisationens nedräkning" med Ulf Rahmberg av museichefen Pontus Hammarén. (Innan dess hann min dotter somna och var om möjligt ännu mer välartad.) Lena Svedbergs konst var inget som lämnade några djupare intryck hos mig, Ulf Rahmberg däremot tycker jag är h e l t makalös på en massa olika nivåer. Han är väldigt politisk med hjärtat på den rätta sidan, han är dramatisk, han är tekniskt skicklig, han är passionerad, han är modern, han är levnadsglad och dystopisk, han är grotesk. Det bästa av allt är nästan alla de myllriga skisser/förstudier i blandteknik som visas, som konstnären sen använder sig av till sina större målningar. Hans stora verk kan (om man som jag tydligen är hudlös, högkänslig) vara väldigt mastiga. Det känns som om man skulle behöva ta in dem i mindre doser.

Eftersom jag varken är skribent eller vet något om konst tycker jag att ni först av allt ska följa de här länkarna och läsa museets egna texter om Ulf Rahmberg och Lena Svedberg, därefter gå in och gilla Borås Konstmuseums facebook-grupp och sist men inte minst åka till Borås och se dessa superfina utställningar!!! (Själv kommer jag vara tvungen att åka och se om dem.) Vi har till den 30 september 2012 på oss.

HOT HOUSE FLOWERS

Flowers from the hot house might not be as wonderful as wild ones, but still very lovely indeed.

PATCHWORK DRAPE

A few days ago I started working on the patchwork that I begun years ago (around 2000). It was supposed to become a bedspread but now, as I've moved my bed into the living room, I'm going to make it into a drape for the bed. I cut squares 10x10 cm that I stitch on the sewing machine. When I started it ago I didn't want to make it too complicated, and it's still a very time consuming project. I mix all sorts of materials, colours and prints and in no specific order even though I let the different fabrics "grow" in and out of each other.... I wouldn't go and buy fabrics for a patchwork as the point of making a patchwork is to use old garments, scraps and any piece of fabric that you can lay your hands on. It's the most marvelous way of do-re-do! Each piece of fabric with its own story.... I'm sure the drape will be absolutely beautiful when it's finished!
